Becoming more competitive for International Medical Graduates. 外国人医師にとっては厳しい状況になってきている

かつてオーストラリアは医師不足の状況があり、そのためもあってか外国人医師を受け入れる需要は高かったと言えます。ところが医師不足に対する対策として、2007年ごろからローカルの医学生の数を増やし続けています。その結果、外国人医師の需要は以前に比べると減ってきていると言わざるをえません。したがってオーストラリアでの臨床活動を目指している外国人医師にとっては厳しい状況になってきていると考えざるを得ません。試験の難易度、病院のポジションの獲得など、全てにおいて厳しい状況になって来ています。

Previously, there was workforce shortage of doctors in Australia. Back then, need of doctors of International Medical Graduates (IMG) was high. However, to solve that problem, Australia has increased the number of domestic medical graduates. As a result, the need of IMG doctors has been getting low. Therefore, it is becoming more competitive for IMG doctors who hope to work in clinical practice in Australia. Difficulty of exams, difficulty of getting a position in a hospital, etc, all getting harsher nowadays.
